Play Sport and learn English

Play Sport and learn English: the effective way to learn English.

This project involves teaching English in a Sports Academy. The teaching method is recommended for those who want to learn English and at the same time to know in depth and practice their favorite sport or learn a new one. This is a very effective, well-established and recognized educational method recognized by the Department and the Science of the Irish Government. The method includes English lessons in the morning, with up to 15 people per class, afternoon workouts and cultural and recreational excursions.

English Classes

The various Sports and English Academies by Play Sport Group provide students with the best native language teachers, graduated and specialised in teaching English to international students. Upon their arrival, the boys are tested to understand their level of knowledge of the English language, and inserted into the appropriate class, formed by a limit of 15 students per class. Teaching focuses on reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English, with ample room for discussions and debates in class so that it maintains some liveliness in learning and improves competence and oral fluency, also emphasizing competence in writing including the composition of letters, reports, and emails. There will be at least 15 hours of English lessons per week. Courses can last from 2 to 3, 4 or 5 weeks.
At the end of the course, students receive a certificate of attendance attesting completion of the course and the level of English achieved.
English courses are organized in collaboration with a well-established international language academy that has been hosting students from all over Europe for over eight years in Ireland and England.

Sport Academy

Athletes train for more than 10 hours a week which include theoretical lessons, coaching, work on individual technique; mental strength development, and intelligence and skills; techniques for safe play; developing skills and ways of expressing themselves fit for team play; games and video analysis. Athletes will be assisted by professional coaches from the best English and Irish clubs, professional instructors and team building specialists. The educational objective is to ensure proper sports education while respecting all stages of the physiological and psychopedagogical training of each participant. All skill levels will be taken into consideration and fun will be considered a very important aspect of the course.

Locations and Facilities

The colleges are in quiet and green areas and have classrooms with modern teaching equipment. Sports facilities include basketball courts, hockey camps, volleyball courts, soccer fields, rugby fields, synthetic fields, a fitness centre, tennis courts, golf courses, horse riding centres and swimming pools. There are also facilities for practising many other indoor sports activities.

Host Family Students stay with families carefully selected by us and have many years of experience in hosting international students. The rooms are double and will be shared with a student of similar age and different nationality (whenever possible). Family Housing gives a perspective on the life of a typical Irish family and interaction with the family plays a leading role in the development of language skills. We are in regular contact with each host family throughout the student’s stay period. Families are conveniently connected to college by tram or bus. It should be noted that children are always accompanied by home-to-school (and return) journeys either by private means or by public transport. All meals are included. In most cases, athletes have hot lunch at the college canteen while breakfast and dinner are made with the host family.

College Some colleges can host athletes within their cosy residential facilities. The rooms are usually single, double and triple or more. The colleges also have an excellent canteen serving hot meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. College accommodation offers an alternative to the “Host Family” and is ideal for students who want to immerse themselves fully in school experience and for younger athletes, the first experience abroad without their family. Staying at a college offers a unique lifestyle oriented fraternity and fits students who love sports because it offers the opportunity to enjoy many of the great sports facilities.

Complementary Activities

Sports and cultural activities, which are held in the afternoon, are an integral part of the course and have the role of improving language skills. An afternoon of the week is organized a cultural trip. Saturday is entirely devoted to a full day excursion to a place of historical-cultural or naturalistic interest, by private bus. For 3 evenings per week evening activities are organised such as discos, debates and cinema.
